My daughter is a junior and getting some contact from schools regarding rowing. One school keeps referring to in-season. Is the rowing season defined by the NCAA or the school itself, and is there anywhere it is published? In our state, rowing is pretty much an all-year sport because its not regulated by scholastic organization. I havent been able to find anywhere that says crew “in-season” is date a thru date b… Hope this makes sense. Thx.

Sorry, don’t understand your question.

“One school keeps referring to in-season.” Referring to what exactly?

What exactly is the coach asking?

What he or she may be asking is - does your HS have a Fall as well as Spring season.
Some schools only compete in the Spring (though they may be practicing and doing workouts the rest of the year). Some schools compete in the Fall and the Spring.

In addition, some rowers also belong to local club teams and compete in the summer too.

Let us know.

Golffather- sorry- the coach was referring to her own collegiate team. We were looking to do some unofficial visits in October in the Northeast. One coach invited us to watch practice, and the other stated their team was not in-season that week. If I look at NCAA website, In-season is when teams can practice 20 hours a week… So while we plan to ask each coach their training periods, I was just wondering if it was defined anywhere by the NCAA that crew fall season was a certain period ( ie Sept 1- Oct 15) and the spring season was another period ( ie Feb 1- NCAA championships).

Women’s spring season start date is usually Presidents day weekend. For fall you are looking for the end date and I don’t know that one.

Ah, got it.
Yes, there is.
Fall competition (against other schools) can’t begin until September 7, or the first day of class.
For the Spring rowing season, it is January 15.
Those dates are the same for Div I and Div III (and, I assume, for Div II also).
