Criminology or Advertising for aspiring Navy officer

Hello All.

I am currently attending a community college and I am preparing to transfer in the spring. My current major is Economics and I have come to realize that I am just not good at math. So I am currently looking at other majors. My first choice was advertising which I have been told is writing intense which I am okay with. I am not a great writer but I can form a good paper if I have to. I took one of those online quizzes to help you determine a major and Criminology and political science came up and that is something that interest me very much.

I know a lot of people here back Criminology, but my friends dad majored in Criminology and and does very well for himself. My major is not really as important as my GPA as I just want to be a Navy officer and fly planes. I fell I have more interest in Criminology than Advertising and I feel I have better job prospects with Criminology if the Navy doesn’t work out.

Most Navy pilots are engineering majors… And advertising has better job prospects, albeit they both have few. As for the Navy, I’d look into NROTC for the college you’re transferring to. You’ve got a long path ahead of you if you want to go that route.

My best friend is a Navy pilot in training and I hangout with him and his buddies all the time (none of them are engineer majors) and I have pretty much been told any major will work as long as I have a good GPA. My main question was which major would be a better fall back major in case the Navy plan doesn’t pan out. I am too far along in school to do NROTC. Plus I am prior service and I would like to just enjoy my freedom before returing to the military.
