Critical Reading 'Dillemma'

Hello everyone

I’m going to enter May’s SAT exam. My math and writing scores are always above 700 fortunately. But I can’t seem to get out of the 500s in the critical reading part. I’m always either answering the question wrong and I don’t know why they’re wrong or I run out of time. I’m starting to lose hope.

I’ve checked multiple strategies and tips and went to tutors but none of them work; I’m still not getting out of the 500s.

I really need some help; how do I approach this baneful critical reading section!! :frowning:

Have you tried applying the strategies? A few strategies I know, such as starting with questions that reference line numbers first (e.g. “in line 4, …”) as opposed to reading the whole passage, then answering the questions and going back to the passage, saved me a good amount of time. Also, how good is your vocabulary?

Btw, it is spelled “dilemma.”

I’m currently memorizing direct hits. I need at least a 650 to achieve my 2100 goal, so can I skip the level 5 vocabulary if I don’t know them? I average from 14 - 19 right, and around 5 wrong for each section. The most helpful strategy is the one you mentioned. However, most of my errors are in indirect (imply, suggest, infer…) and level 5 vocabulary questions. I just saw the typo in the title now haha.

One of the best ways to increase your CR score is putting a lot of work into learning advanced vocabulary and grammar. There are a decent amount of sites out there that can help you in this area, but just to name a few, you can use the following to start -
