To Whom It May Concern:

On Tuesday, November 30, 2004, I purchased a twenty-four-count variety sack of your product from a Harris Teeter Store located in Charlotte, NC. In two of the individual packages there were foreign objects, a spring from a pen and a row of staples.

I am dismayed at this oversight in your package. Your company prides itself on “guaranteed freshness” and the highest quality. I am a loyal customer to the Frito-Lay Company, and I hope this problem will be remedied quickly.

I would feel reassured about purchasing goods from your company in the future, if I received a refund for the chips. The purchase cost $9.17, and I will attach a copy of the receipt as proof for the amount paid.

Alternative solutions to the refund proposal could be a delivery of free Frito-Lay Chips for a year or a written letter of formal apology. Any of these resolutions would satisfy my disappointment. It would show that your company cares about keeping customers happy and that your business takes actions for making mistakes. It would be helpful if your company resolved this matter in a quick manner, instead of waiting for a long period of time.

Frito-Lay Incorporation would benefit by making me content. I could tell the media of the generous deed that your company did after seeing the packaging mistake that had escaped out to the market. Consumers would be amazed at the steps Frito-Lay Inc. takes to assist buyers. Therefore, profits would not be lost from this situation.

This situation could be resolved if a quality assurance program were implemented to ensure that packaging mistakes did not occur. In order to make sure bags were not tampered with, Frito-Lay Inc. could hire several inspectors to make sure none of the bags were open. Furthermore, scanning devices could be put at the end of the assembly line to examine the bags for possible foreign objects that may have not been seen. When these processes were completed, employees could secure the chips in a box wrapped with tape so the bags would not become damaged during shipment.

Another solution for this problem would be to instill pride in employees for delivering the best product he/she can, by offering incentives to make sure these kinds of accidents do not happen. Frito-Lay Inc. could employ an award program that gave certain employees pay raises, better health coverage, and more vacation time when they worked hard. This would ensure that employees look forward to the job they do, and take the extra precautions to produce chips with high quality.

These solutions would make the situation better because it would show that your company cares about keeping customers happy and that your business takes actions for making mistakes. It would be helpful if your company resolved this matter in a quick manner to let customers know you are aware of the problem.

Frito-Lay Incorporation would benefit by making sure that packages did not have flaws in them. Customers would continue being loyal to the company and purchasing boxes of chips yearly. Consumers would be amazed at the steps Frito-Lay Inc. takes to assist buyers. Therefore, profits would not be lost from this situation.
