Cruel and Unusual Punishment

[PD*Poll: Teens sentenced to poetry classes - ParentDish](http://www.parentdish.com/2008/06/04/teens-sentenced-to-poetry-classes/)

As I recall, Frost deeply regretted not being able to take BOTH paths at the same time and vowed to take the second path (not then taken) at some unspecified date as time allowed; suggesting, of course, that either Prof Parinin is one volume short of a complete set or he thinks Frost, like these good-time Philistines from Middlebury, would have been up for some serious drugs, drinks and mayhem at his old digs the second time around.

If they really wanted to punish these libidinous miscreants, they should have been made to honor Alan Ginsberg’s hymn to American Sobriety:

Well…I was moved.

.

Both you and the blogger need to get the facts straight. There were NO Middlebury College students involved in this escapade. The kid who threw the party (a townie) used to work in the college dining hall. Most of the kids were in high school.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/08/opinion/08sun4.html?ref=opinion

Darn. I saw the title of this thread and was hoping someone was posting suggestions. Got my hopes up, and now they are dashed, dashed.

They should have made them study Wallace Stevens instead. THAT would be punishment.

Aww. I visited that house many years ago and thought it was one of the most peaceful, moving places ever. You could just walk around the house, sit in the room, stand at the front door and see what he saw. It was beautiful.

Well it’s cute that they have to take a poetry class now, but if I were the judge I think I’d also require them to scrub down some local gasoline station washrooms around Ripton, until their fingers were worn to the knuckles. And pay fines.

HOpefully the judge saw that already, as said above:

Poetry as punishment? That’ll learn ‘em. Will it improve their SAT-Verbal or will it reinforce male teenagers’ notion that poetry is for the birds?
What does the Poet Laureate think of this unusual (but cruel???) punishment?

Well, not quite. Only AOL does.

I did not even say that these rascals went to college.

I thought that “Parent Dish” was a blog, but I guess it’s AOL. Sloppy reporting bugs me.
