I was accepted to UMDCP for CS and was wondering, what CS focuses is UMD known for? For example, I have a strong interest in Artificial Intelligence or Computational Graphics, but really just want to know what programs are best at CP.
For an undergraduate the only specific ‘programs’ we have are the general computer science major, and the general computer science major with a specialization in cyber security. After the lower levels you have to complete 7 400-level comp sci class. (2nd half of junior and all of senior year). There are basic guidelines (such as a certain number from certain categories) but it is mostly up to you can what you take. Many of UMDs CS faculty are well known for their research, some even ranking as near the top in their fields, worldwide.
As of right now you don’t need to worry about that. Pretty much anything you are interested in, UMD will be damn good at. The computer science department is pretty well rounded and doesn’t really have any massive weak spots.
