There is some projects where the end date is clearly stated (e.g PORTIA), but for many other I failed to find if they were still on the track, or not.

More globally I find it quite difficult (though not really aware about the right information places…) to know what are the current hot research topic in the universities.
From nose and own experience I’ve got broad ideas but some precise stuff could be helpful while building up an application process for a Ph.D.

Maybe I’m missing some key information sources… any idea?

Yeah, there really isn’t a central source of information of ongoing research projects. What people are working on can change quickly, and the websites are rarely updated. Your best bet is to look through the pages of faculty, look at their recent publications, and then contact the people that are working in a field that seems interesting to you (based on their pubications).

There is also a class called CS300, where faculty presents their current research projects. It’s usually taken by incoming PhD students, but it’s totally fine to come and listen to the presentations without being enrolled.
