So here’s the thing: I attend a top LAC. I am not particularly interested in going into high tech or software development. However, I find computer science to be extremely interesting. In addition, I do realize that CS is very useful in virtually every industry. I am interested in finance/banking/trading/consulting and the like.
I think having a CS major (or minor, if it’s enough) tells employers that I am a valuable asset to them because I can probably do things that other prospective employees can’t. It also gives me far more options in case I do eventually decide I want to go into tech/software, considering the job opportunities in that industry. Having a major (or minor) is more than just taking a few CS courses; it’s sort of like a certification. So it’ll be an advantage when it comes to recruiting, correct? Not sure if my analysis/view is flawed.
I am also planning on majoring in economics. I think double majoring in CS might hinder my prospect at doing such things as studying abroad; it would probably be easier to study abroad if I only minored in CS. Of course, I would gladly give that up if the advantages of majoring in CS outweigh the advantages of studying abroad. I am disregarding “the experience” for now and would like feedback purely based on employment prospects.
Could anyone give me any advice on this matter? Thanks!
