Cs on in a chemistry class

Hey everyone, I did bad in one quarter of my high school term which brought my chemistry average to a C+ for the year. I am trying to go to BU, Northeastern, or UMASS how badly are my chances affected.

Talk to your guidance counselor and ask what grades appear on the transcript sent to colleges. Some high schools only send the final grade.

How are the rest of your grades? Are you from Massachusetts? Do you have test scores yet?

I am thinking that for UMass if the rest of your grades are strong you should be fine, particularly if both your GPA and test scores are above the 25th percentile, and you are from Massachusetts.

I know people who have gotten into BU and Northeastern for undergrad, but they had almost straight A’s (the worst grade ever being an 89 for the two of them combined) and neither went there for various reasons including no FA.

I am a B/B+ average student

I know kids that got into Northeastern with C’s. One is my D17’s bestie. She is a B/B+ student too, and eventually also got off the waitlist for Tulane (her original ED school). She also got into (and will be attending) BU.

@JenJenJenJen, that must have been several years ago. Tulane has not taken anyone off of its wait list in recent memory.

@NJDad68 really? It was this year – maybe the friend’s dad (who told me) was fibbing because he felt embarrassed or something.

Yea, Tulane has not admitted anyone off its waitlist since 2021. Here is this year’s admissions announcement: http://tuadmissionjeff.blogspot.com/2017/05/class-of-2021.html.

Sorry, I meant to write that Tulane has not admitted anyone off at waitlist since 2013! (Not 2021, obviously!)

I dont know any kids from this years class that got into BU or NEU with B averages. Maybe, if you have a 34+ ACT score and some awesome EC’s and maybe URM or from S Dakota or something.

My son applied this year to BU and NEU with mostly A-/A grades, maybe 1 or 2 B+, good ACT score and got waitlisted at BU as a legacy, got in at NEU and Isenburg at UMass.

The Boston area school have gotten very competitive. Even UMass has gotten harder, but if you are in state with a B/B+ average you should be OK, depending on your major.

Good luck.
