i only know some html and matlab stuff, would cse 8B be very difficult for me?

i'd be jumping straight to 8B since the minor reqs. don't require 8A/8AL.

thanks

You really need some Java background for CSE 8B. The minor and the class may not require 8A/L, but it helps a lot. I know friends who also took 8A/L who spend hours upon hours in the lab and still do not finish their lab assignments. In CSE 8B, it assumed you already know a good amount java, so if you end up taking CSE 8B with 8A/L, you should take maybe like a summer course in java or something.

thank you for your response.
do you think reading/working with a textbook before spring quarter would do?
lol.
i also have a close friend that could teach/help me with things i might struggle on…or on all of it, but i reckon that would be too much to request of a friend.

Well, I’m currently in CSE 8A/L, and I barely read the book, lol. Which is bad. But I learn the most from doing labs and the weekly programming assignments, because those hands-on experiences are pretty necessary in building your understanding of Java. I’ve looked at CSE 8B assignments, and I don’t think I could handle it at my level, even though the quarter is ending soon x.x

If you’re really set on taking 8B, maybe try taking some summer course at your local community college.

I’m in the same boat as you. Since we have roughly 4 weeks until Spring Quarter, I think it’s completely feasible to learn most of the 8a stuff by yourself. But you’d definitely have to work through Spring Break.

This website has all the quizzes, tests, and programming assignments for 8a, so you could just base your studying off of it:
[CSE 8A Home Page](CSE 8A Home Page)
and it doesn’t look unreasonable to learn all of it before next quarter. Definitely work with someone so you know you’re doing it right though.

…Those grades. Their median is like 95% in Fall quarter and ours is like 80%. ._.

I’m currently in 8b, I was in 8a last quarter and got 98% and this class is still taking up around 20 hours per assignment not to mention reading the book and studying for tests. Right now im in Ord(generally the best teacher in CS) and next quarter Kube is the only teacher teaching. Do not take this class if you do not yet know Java! But Adamantoise I think you should be just fine since some of the stuff is simply a repeat of 8a.

8a is too easy compared to 8b, for 8b, its easier to get an A in Ord’s than in Marx’s
I never took the 8 series since I took 11 but Ord’s 8b class is exactly the same as Ord’s 11
