I’m an international student (non-Canadian) living in Canada. I’m filling out CSS profile and uploading documents to IDOC.
What is the 2016 federal tax document? I submitted both my parents’ 2016 Canadian Notice of assessment documents, and it says they are being processed right now. And it says that 2016 Federal tax return for custodial parent is missing.
Is the 2016 Federal tax missing because the Notice of assessment documents haven’t been fully processed yet? Or are they different documents? If different, what do they look like? Does it say “Federal tax return” on the document?
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! My earliest deadline is Feb. 1 and I have no one around me who knows this. (even my counsellor doesn’t know either)
What country do your parents live in, and to what country do they pay taxes?
“Federal tax return” for U.S. students primarily means the IRS forms that are used to report and pay taxes to the U.S. government, but for a student from another country it would mean the tax forms that are used to report and pay taxes to the home country, or wherever the parents live and pay taxes.
@BelknapPoint They live in Canada, Ontario. They don’t pay taxes to the Can govnt because at the moment they don’t have an income source.
Did they file tax forms with any government in 2016? That’s what the schools want, probably converted to U.S. dollars based on whatever the prevailing exchange rate was at the time of filing.
Specific questions would be best directed to the schools that are asking for the information, if you can’t find answers on the school web sites.
