My parents have been divorced since about 6 months after I was born, and my father terminated his parental rights over 10 years ago. I realize that some schools require the non-custodial parent to fill out a CSS Profile; is there any way to receive a sort of waiver for this since his parental rights were terminated and neither my mother nor myself have been in contact with him since that time? Thank you for any advice
You would include a copy of the court papers showing that your father relinquished his rights along with statements from you and your mom ( her letter would probably be more detailed laying out the events that led up to the termination of rights)
I don’t think the school has any right to know the reasons for the termination. If a court terminated the rights, they are terminated. A school couldn’t ask why a child was placed for adoption, why a parent is in jail, why a parent is disabled. Legal status is legal status.
There is a non-custodial parent waiver for each school. You don’t have a NCP, as documented by the termination paperwork. That is enough.
