CSS Profile--noncustodial parent homeless

My dad currently drives a taxi and spends nights either in his cab or in a motel. The form won’t let me leave the fields for the address blank. Should I just write “Homeless”? Should I contact the school and explain the situation?

Have you asked your dad if he uses someone’s home for a mailing address for tax purposes and other purposes?

How does he file his income taxes?

Just because someone has a mailing address doesn’t mean they are not homeless. Living overnight in a cab or sometimes in a motel definitely meets the definition of homeless.

I’d ask the school how to deal with the homeless issue.

I never said that someone who has a mailing address is not homeless.

I was addressing the OP’s question about what address to put on the CSS paperwork. She needs to put some address. If her dad has a mailing address, she could put that in.

If the dad is employed, he must be either using some address for tax purposes, or he’s not declaring his income and is working under the table. If it’s the former, then use that address, if it’s the latter, then that’s another issue.

Cristiline…I would be VERY concerned about going to a school that requires your dad to fill out NCP info EVERY year…this isn’t a one-time thing. You’re going to need his co-operation every year. If he refuses one year, you won’t get ANY aid and that could ruin your education.

I agree that his address is wherever he files his income taxes.

I had to put “unknown” in all honesty on my FAFSAs, as well as my dad’s income. It helped, however, that we could show that he was 50k in arrears in child support.

This was 15 years ago but if I were you I’d call their financial aid office and ask.
