I just don’t understand why I have done the CSS Profile if some college don’t even use home equity as a basis. http://www.forbes.com/sites/troyonink/2015/07/31/forbes-best-colleges-the-secret-to-financial-aid-is-in-your-house/#6c86c08a17ba
And if they do use the CSS is there a calculator somewhere that I can get an idea on possible aid?
Well, the Profile also asks about a lot of other stuff that’s not on FAFSA. That’s why.
Yes - use the Net Price Calculator that’s found on each school’s financial aid web page.

there’s any estimator at finaid.org that allows you to use federal (fafsa) or institutional (profile) methodologies. won’t be as accurate as each school’s NPC, but it’s an IM estimator nonetheless.
