CSS Supplemental Questions

What should we put for:
Enter the student’s proposed major field of study.
Enter the student’s career objective.

For my major field of study, I want to put Materials Science Engineering, but it won’t fit. Should I just shorten it, or is there some kind of code I’m supposed to use?

Since it’s a financial aid application and not a admissions application, I’d just put “engineering”.

Usually schools will have an abbreviation for their majors, for example if your major was “Computer and Systems Engineering” it might be abbreviated “CSE” or “CSEng”.

If you go to the web site for whatever school is asking the question, you should be able to figure out whatever abbreviation they use for “Materials Science Engineering”, and you can put that.

There may be aid or merit money specifically targeted for certain majors, so I think it pays to be precise. If all else fails, call the school’s FinAid office and ask them.

Okay! Thanks for your help!
