CSU or UC in my cirumstance

I am a junior in highschool and my grades aren’t too great. So far its a 3.5 weighted… I haven’t taken the SAT yet but my PSAT score was 150. My parents want me to attend a UC school but I have a feeling I won’t even get into UCR… D: If I don’t get accepted into UCR, is it best to attend Mt. SAC for 2 years then transfer to a top UC school or just attend a CSU for 4 years?

Thanks :)

Get your grades up, take a course on PSAT/SAT prep and see what happens. Worse case, you go to CC for 2-4 years and get the scores up. CC’s are full.

Well, being the stereotypical and ignorant asian parents that i have. They keep telling me if I go to a CC i’ll never get a decent job… and always pressure me lol.

Asian parents have that issue of pressure. Please work on increasing your grades and tell them to pay for Princeton review over the summer. Also they need to know that a lot of Asian students go to a CC to SAVE money. UC fees and staying on campus will run them $32,000 per year; that is what I am paying for my DD who had a 4.4 gpa and got a total of $307. That’s it! Ask them if they want to pay that.

If you go to a CC and then transfer, no one will have to know. Your degree will be from the UC you transfer to. There will be no asterisk, no “Golden West College Transfer” or anything like that. Transfers have, on average, higher GPA their last two years than those admitted as freshman, too.

As a junior, you still have time to study and get a higher SAT score too. I took the SAT in November of my junior year and again in March and went up 190 points, from an already high score.

Good luck!

i think you should take the SAT and see how you do, plus youre still a junior so theres time? other than that i was sorta in your shoes but i decided to go to a jc instead. If you do go to a jc you save money and you have the option of doing a TAG with the UCs excluding cal and ucla. Honestly its up to you.

Take your SATS and ACT as much as possible until you get a competitive score. And a CCC is actually extremely easy for transferring to a UC. Its only 2 years (;

Do you know that your UC GPA does not include your freshman grades? Your UC GPA will include your sophomore and junior grades only, so you should work hard as this semester finishes.

If you raise your GPA even slightly and get a 1800+ on the SATs, UCM and UCR should be matches.

Do better and you even have a chance at UCD, UCSB, UCI, and UCSC.

That’s funny. Plenty of people (including Asian people) start at a CC, transfer to a UC, and then get good jobs or go to top graduate schools in their major.
