CSUF, CPP, CSUN,CSUSM

Hello,
So I would like to know my chances for these colleges
CSU Fullerton, Northridge, San Marcos and Cal poly pomona
I have a 3.19 CSU GPA,
On my Sat i got a 1080

I will begin my hospital volunteer. so around 50 hours from here till the october 1st application deadline start.
I have done
Fresh Swim
fresh Waterpolo
JV Wrestling

I want to apply for Biology…
I have local Admission for CSUF btw

How Cal States admit:

The Cal states admit by major and eligibility index. They really only consider GPA/Test scores/Geographic location and HS course rigor. Other than Cal Poly SLO, your EC’s are not considered.

Cal states and the majority of the UC’s use the capped weighted GPA.

Then calculate your Eligibility index:
(CSU/UC GPA x800)+ (ACT composite x10) or (CSU/UC GPA x800) + (SAT Math+CR).

You will then be ranked based on EI and major and they accept from the top down until all spots are filled.

You will get priority at your local CSU which you can look up on this link. Local applicants usually require a lower EI to get an acceptance unless the program is highly impacted.

:::::::::::::::::::

Based on your stats posted, your EI is (3.19 x800) + (1080)= 3632.

Being local for CSUF will help, but since it is an impacted campus, it will not guarantee you admission. I would strive to increase your SAT score for a better chance, think 1200+.

Since you are non-local for CSU Northridge, you need a minimum 3700 EI for a decent chance.

Cal Poly Pomona again will be a tough admit with an EI of less than 3800 especially since Biology is an impacted major.

Your best chance is CSU San Marcos. I would add a few more Cal States to your list: CSU San Bernardino, Dominguez Hills, Channel Islands, San Jose State, San Francisco State to name a few.

Best of luck.

How do you find this EI List score that can tell you what score is needed?? and Fullerton is my local so how would my admission look like most likely? im trying to get atleast 1200 on my August SAT attempt

It states that i am Above 400 for Long Beach. That would be safe bet?

The only CSU that publishes their EI thresholds is SJSU.

Some of the CSU’s like CSUN post their minimum EI’s on their website like the link I gave you. For the rest, it just based on the stats of past accepted students. The more competitive the campus and major, the higher the EI is needed. As stated, being local will be an advantage but since impacted campuses are more competitive, it is important to be better than the average.

So CSUF and CSULB are good for me? do you think i have a good chance

long beach and fullerton admission thresholds vary somewhat by major, especially in the sciences but, with a 3.18 and 1080, you;ll probably come up short for both. Because you are local to Fullerton, they may accept you. I"d be sure to apply elsewhere. Maybe Sac and Sonoma?

CSULB would be a Reach also. Think 3900 EI for most of the majors. Again it is an impacted campus abd Biology is a competitive and highly applied major. I gave you some options and so did @NCalRent. Go ahead and apply but make sure you have a solid safety school on your list that are willing to attend no matter what.

Do you know if CSU considers senior year 1st semester in cummulative? and how would you know if any of these CSU’s have a Spring application rather then Fall application?

CSU’s do not consider grades from Senior year in their admission decisions. Senior grades help you msintain your provisional admission. Some schools will ask for Mid-year trancripts after you are accepted to check if you are on track.

On the CSU website, you select which semester you are applying. CSU’s with Spring admissions will be listed once you select that semester. There are only a few in comparson to Fall.
