CSUF - "Joint Emphasis" in College of Business

Hi All. How does getting into a Joint Emphasis degree in CSUF’s College of Business work?

DS wants to apply to the Bachelors in Business Administration Joint Emphasis in Accounting and Finance at CSUF . While other Business Administration concentrations and joint emphasis programs are available in the dropdown menu for major selection during the application process on Cal State Apply, this specific one is not. We emailed the Admissions office but they redirected us to College of Business advising and we are still waiting for a response, so thought I’d ask here rather than agonize all weekend!

Is this specific joint emphasis (Accounting/Finance) something that needs to be “added on” once you are admitted/have completed certain lower div requirements (why only this one?) Would he need to apply for Bus Admin with Finance concentration that is available for selection on Cal State Apply and then “add on” this joint emphasis? Also if so, is it capped?

Anyone with info/same experience? Thanks in advance!

This is what I found in the CSUF catalog:

Admission to the Business Administration major involves two steps. Students who apply to the major are initially classified as Pre-Business. After completing the lower-division core requirements with a “C” (2.0) or better, students may apply to the Business Administration major.

Once the student is admitted to the Business administration major, then they can select the joint emphasis program. I would wait to hear from the Business college to confirm.

How to Declare a Joint Emphasis
Students who would like to declare the Joint Emphasis in Accounting and Finance or the Joint Emphasis in Accounting and Information Systems must use the Change of Major PDF Form:

  1. Download the Change of Major Form (PDF).
  1. Fill in the top portion with your name and identifying information.
  1. Fill in section (D) EMPHASIS: check the box to “Declare Emphasis (Add)” and fill in the Emphasis you would like to declare.
  1. Email the form to businessadvising@fullerton.edu. An advisor will review the form and assist with processing.

@Gumbymom Thank you for this info. Yes, we will wait to see if the Business Advising folks respond. But in the absence of any clear instructions from them, it looks like DS would apply to the closest Business Administration- Finance major listed in the dropdown and then if he gets in/accepts, use the form to request the Joint Emphasis in Finance/Acct. What’s weird is that the other two Joint Emphasis options (Acct/Acct Info Sys and Marketing/Mkting Info Sys) are available as options in the dropdown to select to be admitted into, only the Fiance/Acct one doesn’t show up. We spoke to his counsellor who also thought that was strange but said it wouldn’t be the first time that someone has struggled to find a specific major in the Cal State Apply app; she advised us to contact Cal State Apply helpline as well so will do that tomorrow.
