Hi, I have a gpa of about 3.2, a couple of recommendations from the hospital I volunteered at and I’m also a swimmer. Since, I’m an international student I don’t have any AP credits or extra curriculars except swimming since my school in India is pretty small and doesn’t promote activities much.
I wrote the SAT in June and got a score of 1410
CR- 440
Math-500
Writing- 470
I’m writing it again in October and expecting around 1600 or a bit more. SAT is not my strongest point no matter how many practice tests I do and I kind of gave up on getting more than 1800.
Is there any way I can get into CSULA, Cal Poly Pomona and UC riverside? Anyone of these is good enough for me.
Cal states and UC’s do not accept Letters of recommendation.
Your GPA and SAT scores are low for all but CSULA. CPP and UCR will be somewhat of a Reach. Much will depend upon your SAT retake score and Intended major. There are many other Cal states which would be better targets. Dominguez Hills, San Bernardino, Channel Islands, Bakersfield to name a few.
I agree - unless you dramatically improve your SAT, UCR and CP Pomona are pretty unlikely. I’d add Sacramento, East Bay and Monterrey in the NorCal to the list above.
Your SAT is fine for CSULA. If you bump up your SAT to around 1700-1800, CPP and UCR might be attainable. Apply and find out. I would look at the other Cal states mentioned in the above posts for better Matches.
CPP only looks at the Math and Reading scores. As an international student with a 3.2 GPA - i think you’ll need 1250+/1600 to be a competitive applicant, that may not be enough for their more popular majors - read about more selective majors here: https://www.cpp.edu/~admissions/undergraduate/freshman/impacted-majors.shtml.
Also, be sure to plan to pay full tuition all 4 years. ($35k-$37k per year). Aid is generally unavailable to international applicants.
