CSULB ADMISSION WAITLIST 2020

I got denied as well and they couldn’t even send a god damn letter!

I had to do self service to know I had been rejected…

denied. i cant believe i wasted so much time and energy on this careless school. at least its over with. best wishes to you all

Rejected! I got into my top choice anyways

I would appeal, but it would be a waste of my time. Thanks for voicing your opinions and thoughts as well as updates, it made this troubling experience just a little more easy to get through. Best wishes to all.

WAIT you guys. i was denied for fall 2020 but just received an email out of nowhere offering me admission for spring 2021.

I got denied as well for Fall 2020 and they also gave me “conditional admission“ for spring 2021.

Yeah I was rejected as well, never got any notification for spring 2021

I’m sorry for everyone who got rejected. I just got off the phone with my counselor he said the conditional admission, is you have a guaranted to get in, as long you follow the steps in the email like reapplying. Apparently they don’t do this often. You can still attend the school you got in but there’s no guarantee they all of them will transfer over. He also warned not to fail that semester because they take back that admission. I’ll be calling csulb for additional information.

@Pandalikesice when you say not to fail that semester which semester do you mean? summer 2020 or fall 2020? I will be attended CSUF during the fall so I’m wondering if CSULB will want to see those grades.

Both most luckily and they’re definitely going to look at fall semester grades. I’m also attending csuf in the fall. I’m going to call or email the school to let them know I’m going to transfer to CSULB after fall.

okay can you let me know what they say? i’m pretty much in the same position!

For those who were offered conditional admission for Spring 2021 last week, have you guys submitted your new cal state apply applications yet?
It says on the email to email them directly for an authorization number that can be used to waive the application fee.
I emailed two days ago but haven’t heard back yet.
How long did it take for you guys to hear back?

I already received my code… You should have gotten it last week… You should be fine though. Just make sure to call them to double check.

How long did it take for them to reply back to you?
I am planning on calling them later today or tomorrow morning.

@chrsarch Hey! Sorry this is so late I’m currently looking at this thread. I’m a film major at de anza college (in Cupertino) and I’m applying to CSULB for next fall. If you don’t mind, what were your stats and do you enjoy the film school there? Thanks!

@RadRach Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been the past couple weeks. I will say that the FEA department is undergoing some major changes which includes slightly different requirements.

My stats (Prior to transferring)
Major: Narrative Production Subplan: Production/Directing
GPA: 3. 79
AD-T: AD-T in (Additional AA in Broadcasting)
Golden 3 classes - *NOTE that CSULB no longer considers Math class to transfer
English: A
Oral Communications: A-
Written Communication: A
Pre major classes: 4 of 6 (My screenwriting class was transferred at the request of my advisor)
Extra Curriculars: TA/Equipment room manager for DGME department @ CSM, student government (2 boards and student senator), student radio, Honors project, symphonic band, worked with the campus Community Relations office to utilize video in their ads (to name a few)

While my stats are good, I think all of it is irrelevant. What they look for to be admitted into the Narrative Production program is your ability to tell a visual story. If you can do that well, I have no doubt you can be one of the 40 candidates in the fall.

As for my experience, I would say that I feel right at home at CSULB. All the film professors are either currently working in the film industry, retired from the industry, or teaching at UCLA or Chapman on top of CSULB. Not only are they good people, many love to talk about their careers with their students and give advice and feedback on all of our work. All of the students in the department are great too. We created our own Discord server for all of us to connect. It’s been interesting being able to interact with everyone despite being in an online learning environment.

The workload is similar to what you would expect at some of the more renown schools like UCLA and Chapman. There’s usually some cut, video, paper, or pre-production paperwork due every week. It’s a lot but all of us know that it is part of the process since we are just learning. Production has been challenging so far. Since we’re all bound to the same rules the film industry and the other schools around LA, we can’t have a student production unless we have a COVID compliance officer on set. We’ve had to get a little creative with what is available to us at home. But from what we’ve been told, we actually work in teams and we work with students across the College of the Arts. We can get actors from theater arts, we can get our films scored by the music department, etc.

And this is just my first semester. I still suggest you apply where you can because you never know where you can end up. If you do get into the film program at CSULB, I expect we’ll meet soon. Good luck!
