I am getting ready to transfer and I was wondering which school has a better art program, CAL STATE UNIV LONG BEACH or LOS ANGELES?
My specific discipline is Textiles and Clothing, minoring in entrepreneurship. I know for CSULB I’d be receiving a B.A. in Family and Consumer Science and for CSULA it would be a BA in Art. So a few questions if you know the answer to ANY ONE of them please reply!:

1) which school has a better art program?
2) which school’s art program is more credible?
3) which school is more business/entrepreneur oriented? (i want to own my own business)
4) whats better, a BA in Art or FCS?
5) and anything else knowledgeable you might want to throw in, like is this school fun, pretty campus, creative vibe? thanks!

Between the two CSUs you listed CSULB has the better art program. CSULB spent 14 million to renovate art studio. In addition, the department spent 1.4 million on equiment for the studios and classes in the program. The school has 6 art gallaries devoted to student art.

Both art programs At CSULA and CSULB are credible as they’re are both accredited by the nation association of schools of art and design (NASAD).

Both schools ART programs will not give you any better chance with business/entrepunership. However, If you are more interested in enterprenuer/business I recommend you look into their business programs. why? Because their business programs will better prepare you for business/enterprenuership. Both business schools are accredited by advanced collegiate schools of business (AACSB). The schools options in business include accounting, management, information systems, finance, marketing, and international business.

I would say long beach’s FCS program is better suited for what you what to do more than CSULA’s BA in ART. However, your best preperation for business/enterprenuer ship would be one of their business majors.

Anyways, whether you major in art,FCS, or in business CSULB would be a much better choice. The CSULB campus is bigger, prettier, and has an overall better college atmosphere than CSULA. However, both are commuter schools so don’t expect too much of a college life on campus on weekends or after 6pm during the week.

I am new here, and glad to locate this great forums to search info. My daughter is a senior of HS now. She would like to major in art and target at CSU if she could get in. She is not good at GPA (about 2.5) and still trying to improve on her incoming ACT this month and SAT next month.

She is preparing her art portfolio/mostly on Fine Art and Design. She took the following art classes during HS: Fine Art, Video Making, Ceramic, Photograghy.

Few weeks ago we attended one college fair for all CSU. We asked some colleges rep about notes to apply art and surprised to be told that there is no need to send art portfolio.

Can someone share with us how to apply CSU colleges and let school’s art department recognize my kid? We live in Chino Hills, CA and her HS is in Diamond Bar. Basically there is no particular CSU targetted, just hope not too far and have big chance to get in.

I am currently in the exact situation and was accepted to both CSU’s but do not know which one to chose just yet. If i go to CSULA then I would be getting an Art major with the option of Fashion and Textiles where as at CSULB it would be under Family and Consumer Sciences with the Fashion Merchandising option. Which program is better? and what school did you choose?

1) which school has a better art program? CSULB by far if you are interested in a BFA or metalworking, etc…
2) which school’s art program is more credible? CSULB.
3) which school is more business/entrepreneur oriented? (i want to own my own business) NEITHER is. My suggestion is to take some business classes along the way as an undergraduate to be honest…
4) whats better, a BA in Art or FCS? FCS will not get you a job… A BA in art is better with a minor in business.
5) and anything else knowledgeable you might want to throw in, like is this school fun, pretty campus, creative vibe? thanks! CSULB has a really wacky creative vibe. I have a couple of friends who are art majors. They both like their programs. Costs are going up at all CSU’s so if you are set on art, try to get as many pre-recs out of the way as possible so it doesn’t turn into a 6 year program… (although this is true of any art major)…
