CT parents during college tours/restaurant recs

Arriving after a 7 hr drive to Milford…with K2 on a college visits tours
and
need a PIZZA rec…

I know of a few in New Haven - however-- anything south?
Milford.

Fogfog…if you are going through or near New Haven, go to Sally’s or Pepes. They can’t be beat.

Thanks Thumper1
We have been to Pepe’s with our Yalie (k1)…
and we had to get in line before it opened…

:)

fogfog!!! Are you at it again? I’m waiting on admissions decisions for our third! I’m spending way too much time on CC this month. Why in the world I would think that would cause the mail delivery to come faster, I don’t know!

I have no advice about eating in Milford, but best wishes. This third one is also a fan of all things New England so we may be back.

Skip Sally’s and Pepe’s and go to Modern Apizza on State Street, like the locals do.

Skip pizza and have a cheese-centric meal at Caseus.

Thanks.
DH thinkswe should try and coordinate with K1 at Yale…
I know K1 will have finished 2 a day pratices with team and be “off” spring break and back full on…
We might call from an hr out…say --hey we are headed your way–want to eat at the res college–otherwise we are headed for pizza in NH…

Pizza in NH is MUCH better than our town (state)

I have been concerned if we get weather
and our travel brings us into Milford late-ish
–I am not inclined to interfer with K1’s/team dinner plans so hoping for decent in Milford/Fairfield…plan

just in case…

Hey Riverrunner–
Yes
At it again

Like yours, mine has loved Yale and
now its time to find the FIT for K2…

good luck with your K3

xoxoxox

“Skip Sally’s and Pepe’s and go to Modern Apizza on State Street, like the locals do.”

I’m a native and we go to Sally’s.

Michelangelo’s isn’t Sally’s/Modern but they are good on Derby Ave West Haven/New Haven line. I go there many times when I don’t have time for the others. It’s near the Yale Bowl, close to Orange Ct also.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/michaelangelo-pizza-and-subs-restaurant-west-haven

There is a Pepe’s Pizza on the Fairfield, Bridgeport border. It is easy off/easy on interstate 95 and the pizza is good. (Maybe not New Haven good, but pretty good nonetheless.)

Me too. But only when I feel like waiting for an hour in line.
I also like ketchup on my hamburger. ;)

Wall St. Pizza in New Haven – Thin crust, inexpensive, crispy crust, and sooooo good!

Another local for Modern. Sally’s in my family is banned for life. Not only do you have to wait for hours, but you might have to experience thinly (not the crust) disguised contempt. Pepe in Fairfield better than most pies but not as good as Pepe’s in NH.

Is the poster who likes ketchup on hamburgers referring to Louis’ Lunch, another NH institution, which claims to be the inventor of the hamburger? If you ask for ketchup, you risk eviction.

[Louis’ Lunch - The Birthplace of the Hamburger Sandwich](http://www.louislunch.com/index_mobile.php?action=mobile_index)

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

We got into town late, had a few minutes visiting with K1 at Yale and then got to bed before a busy day etc the next morning.

“Is the poster who likes ketchup on hamburgers referring to Louis’ Lunch, another NH institution, which claims to be the inventor of the hamburger? If you ask for ketchup, you risk eviction.”

She obviously doesn’t eat at Louis’ either.

I must admit that my family doesn’t have to wait in line at Sally’s. We get to walk right in and get the same table every time too. Right in the front, to the right, under the window. When I was little Sally use to let me go in back and make soda’s for everyone. I have never been to Pepe’s. That would be a shunning offense.

Anyone here a Jimmy’s fan?

The best pizza I’ve had in New Haven was at Sally’s. The best clam pizza I’ve had is at Pepe’s. The place I usually go to is Modern. Why? It’s very good and you can get in. I see no reason to wait a ridiculous amount of time for pizza. I would go to Abate’s before waiting in line - and Abate’s is fine for pizza, btw, with an actual menu beyond that - but mostly because they have parking and you can get in.

I have more than once passed by Louis’ and stopped if there was no line. Putting the history aside, it’s a hamburger. Go in, order 2, and scarf them.

I agree with your assessment of the places. Since my husband changed jobs and lost a private number at Sally’s, we go to Pepe’s for clam or Modern. (daughter loves veggie bomb) I would like to visit Sally’s again, but I’m too impatient to wait long, you either have to be early or late.
Louie’s is good but I wonder at times when people have to wait a long time, does it make any food taste better?

Yes, it was a Louie’s reference. :)

I’m also a fan of Istanbul Caf
