I’m an average 3.5GPA student. What liberal arts colleges have a good (cultural) anthropology and creative writing program?

Beloit! is well known for its cultural anthropology program. You’d have to check on creative writing. 3.5 is about right.

Union (NY), Drew and Grinnell also have good anthropology programs.

Beloit has a great Creative Writing major. Not only do they have the only professional fiction journal edited by undergraduates, they have the Mackey chair- an endowed chair that is held open for a visiting professional writer each spring. Basically, they have a writer in residence for a month and a half each year. You should definitely check it out.

i’m actually a freshman at drew - and in a cultural anthropology course. i can honestly say that i am in love with it. my professor has done fieldwork with the inuits for a year and has had articles published. for our class, we are doing an extensive ethnographic project. ahh. the anthropology dept is really, really nice here.

also - drew has a writing minor, and i think they are developing at creative writing major. they just received the archives of the dodge poetry festival - which is the largest poetry festival in the country. they just put in a mfa program for creative writing.

AND drew is sat optional! you can send in a graded, analytic paper instead of your sat scores.

i also ditto beloit. for creative writing - knox college is somewhere you should check out!

Thanks for the suggestions?

What about schools in the Northeast? I think I might want to go to school there more.

Your 3.5 GPA doesn’t go as far there.

Bard has, student for student, the best undergraduate-focused creative writing program in the country - and that includes all the Ivies. HUGH faculty for its size. Don’t know about their cultural anthropology program.
