as of now, i have a
3.5 overall gpa
3.9 technical gpa
2.5 other gpa ( C+ and B- in writing)

i was just wondering if the grades i got in writing will bring me down significantly. would colleges look more at your cumulative gpa or your major gpa? i am planning to transfer to eecs in berkeley from ucsd, and if any of you go to ucsd warren, you would know how bs the writing class is.

also, i took some classes in my cc when i was still in high school. would i add those gpa into my cumulative gpa?

lastly, since im done with writing, my gpa for this quarter and next quarter should rise a little to about 3.7 when i apply and 3.8 by the end of fall quarter. do you think i have a shot at eecs?

I think they look at your overall GPA. However, they do look for trends and if you only got bad grades in English then it shouldn’t hurt you so bad.

I would say you have a decent shot. But none of us can say for sure. Based on your writing grades, I would think you had a poor mastery of english, which will work against you. And as you probably know, UC->UC is not as easy as CCC->UC. If Cal is your dream, you should go to a CCC your sophomore year.

godbreath

Why do you wanna transfer? UCSD is my first choise and Berkeley is my second choice. Bioengineering is my major. What dont you like about ucsd?

i want to transfer because berkeleys eecs department is a lot more prestigious
also, based on the professors i had at ucsd, id say more than cannot really teach at all and you have to learn everything from the book. i have yet to get a class with a good professor yet
