wat are the reps of cuny schools in ny? schools like queens college, hunter, brooklyn college, baruch…

I don’t think too good. I mean, from what I heard, the staff are almost totally dysfunctional, the unit responsible to helping ou find a job after you graduate (i don’t recall the name) is useless (That’s what my Math teacher said, at least), and most importantly you don’t get the “College Experience” . I mean I’m only a Junior, but since my old Math teacher, and my Science teacher are from Brooklyn. For my Math teacher, it tooks 2 Masters, and a year of searching to finally getting a job all the way in Florida. (And leaving me stranded with little-to-no knowlege of Math B) My Science teacher originally went for Microbiology, that went nowhere, went for something else, also went knowhere, and finally is now in Nursing school. He’s, what, 32?

I’n not trying to say that I’m an expert or anything, but from my teacher’s past experiences (and from the ratings from Prinseton Review website), cUNY schools arn’t that good of a choice as the cost may seem. (Also, my friend’s brother went to Brooklyn, hated it, and transfered the next year to Stoneybrook. He’s now a Junior, and loves it there)

bump…

Baruch has a good reputation here in New York, the rest are considered mediocre at best, except for several special programs that are very tough to be admitted to. CUNY schools are also a very specific lifestyle. Many are attended by older students, there is extremely limited housing (if there is any at all), and so a lack of campus feel and collegiality. Frankly, (except for the special programs) CUNY schools are looked down on for smart kids coming out of high school. Check the admission stats, by the way. The requirements aren’t high, but the number of applicants makes their acceptance rate very, very low for schools with similar stats. Are you looking at any other schools?

well im going to nyu but i have some friends going to hunter… wats hunters overall rep? i thought it was known as one of the best cunys next to baruch nd queens

Sure Hunter is a good CUNY, one of the best - but thats relative, none of the CUNY’s can compare with most public colleges. The sole exception is the CUNY Honors program, which is amazing.

CUNY Honors program? Just out of curiosity, what’s so special about getting that?

The program is really excellent. It’s intended for kids who might have otherwise gone to elite colleges. The tuition is free, it provides a stipend, and some other nice perks.

In recent years, the Natural Sciences (Biology and Biomedicine) departments at City College of NY (the original CUNY campus) has sent students on to graduate study and medical school to places such as Harvard and Penn State. As was said, the Baruch College business department admissions is VERY competitive. CUNY honors program has drawn top students who were admitted to Ivy league schhools. The free tuition is a big incentive.

if your in cuny honors wat school do u attend? or is there a special cuny honors school?

May I offer you this link? It shows that the program is present in several schools. There is also going to be a similar Teaching Academy next year for students who want to be – you guessed it – teachers.
