Curious '06er (Brown,UCLA,UCSD, Johns hopkins)

Hey guys,

I’m new and this is my first post. Anyway, I go to a highly asian populated school, ranked top3 in CA (70% + azn) in California where students and extremely active/competative in academics and extracurriculars. This year for class of 05, I know 5 who got accepted into harvard, 5 into stanford, MIT, …many accepted to UCB, UCLA, UCSD.

As a junior, I am slightly nervous about my chances of getting into a great school such as (Brown, UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD). Hopefully you guys can give me feedback on how I can improve myself.

Info: azn (asian!) male
school does not rank students
GPA unweighted 3.67
GPA weighted 3.95

rigorous courses taken/in progress: Chem Honors, Precalc Honors, Calc AB-AP, Bio AP, US history AP

SAT IIs: 740 math IIC, 760 Chinese

I have great realtions with my Bio AP teacher. I sometiems stay afterschool and ask her for help. SHe knows I work extremely hard even though I do not get the highest grades. My participation in classes and lectures hopefully gives her a good impression of me. I’m hoping to ask along with my APUSH teacher to write recs. Im hoping the bio rec will help me out b/c I intend to major in bio science or med. Apush rec should be good, but not “wow” like bio could be.

Next year as a senior, I will be enrolled in college advantage, a highly selective program that took 3 students form my high school. We will take college classes and be able to transfer credits.

EC’s
-California scholarship federation (all high school. soph yr=secretary, jr yr=vp) its a club that does vlntr service and gives seniors scholarships at end of yr determined by their devotion to volunteering. CSF is a HUGE club at school
-Japanese honor society (2yrs vp)
-school student gov’t/ ASB commissioner (organized events, etc major leadership role at school) (jr yr only)
-youth symphony (soph,jr yr. violin II promoted to violin I) going on tour with youth symphony in europe this summer
-community service here and there (200 hours)

So anyways, I just want to know how I’d do applying to Brown (ED?), UC, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, johns hopkins SORRY FOR THE LONG POST! please reply, any feedback is appreciated

it’s funny how you say that this is your first post, but underneath your name, on the left hand side, it says: “Posts:4”… haha…
it sounds like you have a good chance though

First post is not the same as only post, no? He probably posted more questions after this one.

I suppose you’re right… I still thought it was funny though

you have good achievements…work hard on those essays…begin over the summer if you can…i really regret not doing that now…in fact so many of my friends from '04 had told me to do that but i never really paid attention…now i know better…you should start over the summer for schools that you truly care about…and then get as many ppl as you can to critique them for you…the more number of opinions you get the better because your essay will be read by different kinds of ppl…again…good luck…but don’t pin all hopes on one school…because there’s really no way to tell…!

any other opinions about the schools I’m considering? any feedback will be appreciated!
