Current 1st year Undergrad majoring in Applied Ling & minoring in Digital Humanities. Wonder what possible careers I can have

I am bilingual and am considering adding a foreign language minor later after I complete DH minor. I plan to get a phd in linguistics-related field.

I mean, a lot of the answers to your question depend on what sort of linguistics-related field you’re interested in going into, as well as the specifics of your institution’s DH minor, since there’s a wide range of different curricula that fall under that umbrella. (In particular, how much programming does it include?)

Most applied linguistics students go into the teaching of languages, naturally enough. You should know that the usual degree for that isn’t necessarily a PhD, but rather an MAT (master of arts in teaching) if you’re interested in teaching middle or high school, or an MA in TESOL if you’re interested in teaching English as an additional language at any level.

(Some university EFL programs require a PhD in linguistics, often in applied linguistics, while others don’t, but still require the MA in TESOL. Whether the MA in TESOL is a terminal degree is a matter of some current debate. Even if you got a PhD, though, if you’re teaching EFL at a university there’s usually an expectation of having gotten graduate-level TESOL certification of some sort along the way.)
