Current College- Doesn't offer major

I’m going into my third year of school and have decide to change my major. Currently I am majoring in Criminal Justice but am having second thoughts and have became fairly interested in becoming a Social Science Analyst. Problem is my school doesn’t offer it and I don’t really want to transfer mainly because credits/On track scholarship. We don’t offer Sociology also so I’m trying to find a major most closely associated to Sociology/Social Science. Help!

You will honestly have a pretty hard time getting a job with either of those to say the least. I suggest you take Philosophy if your school offers it. Reason being is that Philosophy majors make the top 5 in pay for Liberal Arts majors.

Good Luck.

^^^ Part of that may have to do with the fact that many philosophy majors end up going to law school, which may easily confound the data. I don’t think there is a drastic difference between studying that and sociology or the social sciences

There may also be a self-selection effect with philosophy majors, who need to do well in and like both humanities type thinking and logical type thinking. Those who do not like or do poorly at one of these types of thinking are unlikely to major in philosophy. So, when competing for jobs which are not closely associated with specific majors, philosophy majors likely have some advantages, not because the employers select for philosophy majors, but because they are more likely to have the varied types of thinking skills desired.

Best majors for social science analysts are economics and political science- and they have better job prospects than a sociology major. Also, if you don’t like the sound of econ b/c it sounds math-y, be aware that any analyst job will have a lot of data analysis before you get to the policy part.
