Current Exonians: How's the workload?

For current Exonians, I would like to know how many hours a day you have homework.

For any Exonians who are currently taking Latin, how hard is the grading and how much is the homework?

here’s something I know about Latin at Exeter: the average student gets a 792 on the SAT II test.

Wow!!!

Do you guys know what text book they use?

you can look it up… go to their bookstore online

Okay, I’ll do that.

Clear your inbox, BTW.

The student who took me around at revisits said that he typically had 5 hours of homework a night. Now, he may have been exaggerating, but that seems like a huge amount. The people at Andover said 3-4 hours on a bad night.

Wow, 5 hours! I think it also depends on the working speed of the person.lol.

4-5 hrs is the norm. It’s crazy and can be very stressful at times. Everyone who has been accepted needs to carefully consider whether they want to put in the time that is required. By the way, Latin is the toughest course here. Don’t take it unless you want to work very hard and just get a B-.

B-? OMG! so what do you do in Latin? What’s the hardest part? Who’s the best teacher?

Kiddo, do you mean the introductory Latin course?

lol tommeister, who was your guide?

for me, i spend 1.5-3.5 hours a night average, 3-4 on sundays [none on saturdays, EVER.] but yeah, you need to put in a lot of effort in learning the material, and you can’t take any course lightly. the reason i dont do as much hw is because i work hard in class, and my schedule is really messed up [so i work in the time i have]

and latin is not as extreme as you would think, most of my friends can get steady B through A. and, a classical diploma boosts your cumulative gpa by .6 i think, so it balances out.

and no, latin is not necessarily the hardest, it all depends on your teacher. i.e. japanese this year has put 1.5x more material in its curriculum, and one teacher gives 1.5hours+ hw every night. latin is easy if you enjoy learning it, so dont choose a different language, thinking it will be easier

does the classical diploma really boost the gpa? i havent heard that before… and 0.6 is huge…

4-5 hrs on hw

my son received the classical diploma from exeter and I will check with him- never heard that about it raising the gpa. where did that info come from?

Same here, my son will receive the Classical Diploma and I never heard about the GPA thing. As far as homework goes, my son usually spends around 2-3 hours a night average, but he also has some free time at school during the day, so he will sometimes gets the bulk of his work done then.

Oh okay, thanks guys. Post on.

well apparently exeter sends colleges a letter along with the application saying that since latin/greek are very challenging, they say that the college should view the applicant’s gpa 1 point higher, or something of that nature.
