Current LMU Students... please help me out

I know this is probably going to seem trivial, but please help me out. I was accepted into LMU and I know that I’m going to take English 110 in the fall. I’m already dreading that course after seeing this syllabus… http://www.lmu.edu/Assets/Academic+Affairs+Division/Academic+Resource+Center/ENGL+110+LT+Syllabus.pdf

Just describe your experience in taking the class… I just need some clarity from someone who has already been in it.

I’m an introvert and it seems that all of the syllabuses stress "participation’'… how big of a deal do they make of this in reality?

How much writing do you do in class?

It seems like you have to take a ‘diagnostic test’ on the first day and I’m fearing that it will be an essay. If so, what type of topic do they want you to write on?

If it’s something like a “personal narrative” essay than I’m screwed…

Just please help me, this is stressing me out

I can’t speak towards the class material, but if you struggle from social anxiety, I would recommend talking to the professor before or after class. I’m sure they would understand.

Thanks but I need some real answers. Please help me out people. It’s really appreciated.

If this is causing you this much anxiety, I would think it is going to be a long four years in any college, but particularly a private university with small classes that wants to get to know you when you don’t want to be known. Didn’t you have to participate in high school? Nowadays, kids are expected to be front and center more than in the past. Could you see somebody (a therapist) about all this fear and stress? Do you have anyone to talk to about it?

Usually it isn’t as bad once you get there and everyone else is a little nervous about putting it out there too. Maybe LMU has someone you can talk to, perhaps your parents could ask about it if you don’t want to. I get being introverted, but this much stressing over class participation is a little concerning. This may be a great chance for you to grow!
