Hi Phase2

Congrats on your son finishing his first term.

Yesterday, they were suppose to start posting the final grades for the fall term (Chicky is still waiting on one more class). In answer to your question

Attempt Hours How many courses a student originally attempted to take during the term for example if a student is registered for 3 courses they have attempted 3 hours.

Course Count number of courses (I believe it is the number of courses completed) for example if your student registered for 3 courses, dropped a course, the course count for the number of courses during the term is 2.

*GPA Hours /b

Quality Points are as follows: A counts as 12 points, A- as 11,
B+ as 10, B as 9, B- as 8,
C+ as 7, C as 6, C- as 5,
D as 3, and E as 0.

If your student took 3 courses and recieved an A in each course, they have accumulated 36 quality points. to get their GPA you would multiply 3 X the number of courses taken (if it is a 3 course load then it is 3)

3 x 3 = 9

divide the total # of quality points 36/9 = 4.0

If your student received the following grades: A, A- , B+

the quality points would be 33 (12+11+10)
the gpa would be 33/9 = 3.67

hope this helps.

Sybbie719 - you are amazing. Thank you! My son comes home today! He has been in Miami w/ the crew team. I can’t wait to hear more about his first semester at Dartmouth. He’s been very, very happy there-- which makes me-very, very happy.

Don’t they mail first-term grades to the parents, too? I know we’re not going to be sent any more after this, but I thought the parents get first term’s.

Yeah, the only grades that are ever mailed to parents are those from freshman fall. After that, its up to you to share them.

So when might we parents receive them in the mail? Any day now?

I would guess so, yes. Although they’re most likely already up online for you…if yours aren’t yet, then they will be by tomorrow.
