Compared to other universities, there are not a lot of places to hang out on campus. Most people retreat to Franklin St. At the bottom of our Union, there is a recreational room with ping pong tables and pool tables (I think…?, I rarely go there). From time to time, they do show sneak previews of movies in the auditorium of the Union, but that is rare occasion.

When the weather is nice, as it has been the last few weeks, people hang out on the quads located throughout campus. People socialize in Lenoir Hall, but it’s mostly for eating.

For your personal health needs, people work out in both Ram’s Head Recreation Center and the SRC (Student Recreation Center) and various classes (zumba, aerobics, spinning, etc.) are offered daily, but I believe there is a fee that you have to pay for certain classes.

If you’re invested in your religion, certain religious organizations have buildings on campus or close to campus that students go to, to hangout and meet people.

There are basketball and volleyball courts outside of certain dorms and living complexes (HoJo, Ram’s Village) and people will play outside when it’s nice. About twice a year, dorms have special days where they have free food and games.

Hope that helps! I know that other schools like Maryland and UF have more facilities on campus such as arcades and bowling alleys, but unfortunately, UNC does not offer similar venues. And compared to neighboring schools like Duke, UNC does not host many great concerts. We were suppose to have Snoop Dogg on campus but we were forced to Raleigh to see him. Granted the university supplied students with free transportation, but it is still not the same as having an artist at your campus.

I’m a senior, but transferred from Miami and we had many more concerts on our campus, like N.E.R.D, Afroman, Ying Yang Twins and a huge rock concert at our on campus arena “BUC” Bank United Center, equivalent to the Dean Dome.
