Currently a HS sophomore, UCSB is my dream school

So I know freshman year doesn’t count (thank God, I failed Honors Biology) and I’ve just ended my first semester of sophomore year. I took:

AP European History
Honors English
CP Chemistry
Spanish 2
Algebra 2
Journalism (I was a staff writer for the school paper)

I’m (kind of) a part of Invisible Children club, and was involved in school plays my freshman year. I’m working on my volunteer hours (I need them for Church) and am planning on a trip to Haiti with my mom to help people.

My GPA this semester was 3.16 (weighted). I know, it’s bad. I’m not sure if that’s my UC GPA because I’m unsure how to figure it out? I think it’s the same as how my school calculates it.

I’m a white, middle-class female who lives in southern California (if that matters).

UCSB is my dream school! Help? :)

Technically freshman year does count when they compare you to other students.

Weighted UC GPA is different then a high school’s standards on weighting grades. However, get your grades up and take AP/Honors when you can. Get your GPA around the high 3.9s. SAT scores matter big time, so I recommend taking the PSAT to see where you stand and to study from there. I think you’ll be fine as long as you get your GPA up.

try and get your GPA to at least a 3.65 around there, and then mid to high 2000’s on your SAT
