Curriculum at Groton

Does anyone from Groton School know what math curriculum they use for geometry?

You mean which textbook? I am not sure if this helps you but you will take a math placement test and your results on that test combined with your math SSAT score and your math teacher rec will determine which math class you are placed in. There are 2nd formers who come in taking Algebra 1, Geometry Honors or regular and in at least one case that I can think of Accelerated Advanced Pre Calc which involves doing python programming one day of the week. In addition, if it seems that you have been placed incorrectly in the fall you can move to the appropriate class. People move both up and down.

@LifeLongNYer Thanks, that was pretty helpful. I came from a public school and finished algebra 1 and this year I am doing Geometry. I really don’t want to have to repeat geometry so that’s why I wanted to know the textbook so I don’t have any holes in my knowledge.

Also, knowing the honors geometry textbook would be helpful. If you could tell me, that would be awesome!

I do not know which textbook, honestly it doesn’t really matter which textbook. If your placement test demonstrates a thorough knowledge of high school level geometry they will place you into Algebra 2. The path is basically Algebra 1, Geometry (regular or honors) Algebra 2 (regular or honors) Pre Calc (regular, honors or accelerated advanced), AP Calc, math topics and/or AP Computer Science etc. I can promise you that you will be challenged and that nobody is going to make you repeat anything. Also if you are going to a revisit day I would encourage you to discuss it with someone, they will be happy to talk to you about it. There are often situations however where the math (or foreign language) that an incoming kid has taken at their home school doesn’t fully prepare them for skipping a class at Groton. IE the pace for a latin class at Groton is probably faster than a latin class at many other schools…

Thanks, very helpful!
