I’m going to Europe this summer and will be buying some souvenir packs of cigarettes from the countries I’ll be staying in. Does anyone know about the laws concerning declaring tobacco products when you’re bringing them back from Europe? As in…what do you legally have to declare if it’s in your luggage? Also I don’t know because it’s OK to buy cigarettes before you’re 18 there…but it isn’t over here.

P.S. Please don’t make this thread about whether or not people should smoke. Thank you so much.

I don’t know what you’re legally supposed to do. I brought a bunch of Cuban cigars back from my trip to Europe a few weeks ago. I just didn’t declare them, wrapped em up in a colored plastic bag and put it in a pocket of one of my jackets in my checked suitcase. I don’t think they’ll care too much.

Technically you are allowed to bring 200 cigarettes home to the states tax free. Cigarettes are expensive as hell over there and with the exchange rate with the euro in the tank plan on spending 10 bucks (7.5 euro) a pack at least. You are allowed to have cigarettes if you are under 18, you just can’t buy them legally. (don’t ask)
Also don’t forget as of April, you cannot bring lighters onto planes, only matches. They will confescate (sp?) any lighter, even if it is a nice zippo or something.

haha, i know…i bought them several times last summer (i guess i look over 18) but didn’t bring anything but half a pack home (I had forgotten them in my carryon! ahh!).
I found some decent ones for 3.5 Euro a pack. it’s more about the memories attached to them than the quality of the cigarettes, I think…
