Cutting it close, need law expertise

Well, I just had a surprise phone call from George Washington University. I was one of 15 admitted to their 6 year BA/JD program. This is the program’s first year, perhaps its “experimental year.” The GW people hype the program dramatically, but I have no way of knowing if it’s as prestigious or rigorous as they assert, since it has never been tried.
Anyway, I love Tulane and the idea of NO. I was set on TU and the honors program until that phone call, which just completely shook me. Someone who knows something about law and understands the prominence of GW Law (while its undergrad is good, I have been told its law school is one of the best), please give me feedback. I’m completely torn, and by the way the lady on the phone sounded… this is not an opportunity to pass up.
Advice appreciated.

EDIT:
I’d have to maintain a 3.7 (ouch…), but I would not take the LSATs (nice!). They’re overnighting me information about financial assistance, but I know it will be a set amount for all 6 years. In comparison, I received the DSA from Tulane.

Ballboy - Let’s consider a few things. What were you planning to major in at Tulane? What would happen at GW if you didn’t meet the 3.7? That seems pretty stiff, but I don’t know what your hs GPA was, or what you know re grading at GW.

When do you have to let GW know? Is it the usual 5/1 deadline? If so, they sure didn’t give you much time, did they? Were you on a wait list or something? Also, did you post this question on the law board?

Good luck. Hope we can help.

In looking up rankings, I see that both GW and Tulane are in the top 100 according to more than one ranking system. GW is higher (20 vs. 40ish; tie-19 vs. tie-35). FWIW.

Also I have read (but don’t know first hand) that it’s difficult to get funding for law school - so if the GW $ go for 6 yrs, that’s an advantage; or did you mean it’s a lump sum?

I have a son in Tulane undergrad and both the wife and I are GW graduates so I know a little about both schools. I can tell you that GW Law is very good and very very difficult to get in to. One of the most difficult law schools in the country to get in fact.

If it were just a question of undergrad I’d lean to Tulane. On the other hand you do need to consider that 3.7. That is a pretty stiff bar to maintain. I think Tulane also has an early admission to law school program. I am not sure of the details but you might want to check with admissions or one of the Tulane deans on the details.

Either way it is a good choice to have to make. Congratulations and let us know which way you wind up going.

Thankfully, they gave me a new deadline of May 13th. Initially, 15 were accepted and 7 were waitlisted (myself included). 3 were accepted from the WL, and the phone calls went out yesterday.
I will fill you all in on the financial situation in a day or so as they overnighted it to me.
The two most influential negatives regarding GW would be that damn 3.7, and the fact that I don’t really like the idea of an integrated campus. I’m going to revisit around the 5th if I still haven’t decided because I have a gap between AP exams.

They provide 15,000 a year, leaving 27,500 remaining per year for my family. It looks like the 3.7 is going to make me attend Tulane.

Lucky Tulane Ballboy! Good luck!

Enjoy Tulane ballboy ( if your decision is final, couldn’t tell for sure)!
