Any teens or parents of teens out there who would be willing to communicate via PM regarding their experiences with cutting? I am so very sad about this…

I don’t have any experience with cutting, but you were fairly vague. If you haven’t been PMed by very many people, adding a little bit of info might help you get a few more responses, if you care to share.

you obviously want to share or you wouldnt have ended the post with " I am so very sad about this…"

search the internet to find some resourses. call a hot line. talk to someone you know and trust. go see a professional who deals with things like this. these will do a lot more for you than creating some vague gloomy thread on a college related website.

youve got to help yourself before others can help you.

There is definitely hope.

Here’s some information about cutting, and a link to more info and resources.

"The effective treatment of self-injury is most often a combination of medication, cognitive/behavioral therapy, and interpersonal therapy, supplemented by other treatment services as needed. Medication is often useful in the management of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, and the racing thoughts that may accompany self-injury. Cognitive/behavioral therapy helps individuals understand and manage their destructive thoughts and behaviors. Contracts, journals, and behavior logs are useful tools for regaining self-control. Interpersonal therapy assists individuals in gaining insight and skills for the development and maintenance of relationships. Services for eating disorders, alcohol/substance abuse, trauma abuse, and family therapy should be readily available and integrated into treatment, depending on individual needs.

In addition to the above, successful courses of treatment are marked by 1) patients who are actively involved in and committed to their treatment, 2) aftercare plans with support for the patients new self-management skills and behaviors, and 3) collaboration with referring and other involved professionals."
