CWRU 2024 EA/ED I Discussion (merged)

@bopper and others - do you have to fill out an internal financial aid application (after you get your acceptance) to see any financial aid award?
That’s how this link reads to me: https://case.edu/socialwork/resources-for-students/new-student-financial-aid-procedures

Or is that only for loans? are grants automatically in the portal somewhere?

"New Student Financial Aid Procedures
Review the procedures below to apply for student loans listed on your financial aid award.

If you have any questions regarding the financial aid application process, please contact Matt Colver.

Apply for loans

Complete your FAFSA. Use the Mandel School Federal School Code E00084.
Complete your internal financial aid Application found on your CWRU My Financial Aid portal. A CWRU Network ID is required to access this site, which you will be provided upon admission.
Once the financial aid applications have been completed, an award letter will be emailed to your CWRU account that specifies your gross award amounts. "

That is for the Mandel School of Social Sciences which is more of a graduate program.

If you have any questions I would contact admissions or the Financial aid office:

“If you have any questions, please contact the Office of University Financial Aid at 216.368.4530 or financialaid@case.edu.”

Kid accepted EA. 1530 SAT (800 Math and 730 EBRW). SAT II - Math 2 (800) and Physics (730). Engineering. $32.5k merit scholarship. URM. Attended diversity weekend.

Does anyone also received a package (not an envelope) in the mail today? I don’t want to open it without my D, but very curious what’s in there:))

My daughter got one today too! @Noisymom I won’t spoil the secret though.

We got one too. Did you open it yet? It was really nice of them.

Yes, @holychild, she opened it!? Did not expect it either, really nice of them?

My son got one, he was so excited. We weren’t home and he sent us a selfie of himself wearing the VIP badge. Love that they sent this. Really made him feel special

D was accepted EA to nursing, pleasant surprise. ACT 35. GPA 3.6uw, 4.2w, mostly honors with 4APs, including 10 semesters of science classes with lab, at a top rated out-of-state high school. ECs: 4yrs badminton team, 3yrs freshman coach; 2yrs varsity esports; 2yrs part time job as barista; 2yrs part time job as pharmacy tech; Chemistry tutor. Nothing particular for volunteering, community service, leadership, awards. Essay was uniquely captivating and showcased her character in overcoming adversity, which may have helped. Strong interest definitely made a difference, she put herself on the school mailing list early in junior year, signed up and attended a local area information event held by cwru admission team; after the event she spent a lot of time talking with them asking detailed questions about the program and campus.

My daughter got one and it made her really happy. She has signed up for the February overnight visit and we’re looking forward to having her discover the campus and the city. I have to tell you that Bob’s McCullough frequent emails leading up to decision day explaining what life was like at CWRU and the opportunities really pulled us in as parents. I’m sure many parents who got these emails probably feel the same way. The envelope today had some goodies giving a taste of campus life. His team’s marketing strategy is effective. Only one other school my daughter applied to was doing this. The rest were dead silent. I am surprised other schools don’t emlploy a similar strategy. CWRU is already in the pole position for us because the frequent emails gave me a good picture about CWRU and that it would be an environment my daughter would thrive in. The emails sparked interest enough for me to ask around my network. The consensus was positive… great school. That is something you want to hear when talking with other working professionals in positions to hire people. We are now subtly hinting to our daughter to commit to CWRU.

Excellent essay, decent rec letters, was accepted to diversity weekend, but a last-minute deterrence prohibited my attendance

Does anyone know if there is an admitted student groupchat or facebook page?

DS20 received a package too and we are international! Just the postage itself costs more than the goodies in the package I am sure. It was a nice surprise!

I got 30k per year too. Do they just advertise higher prices for international students but the actual price is 30k lower?

TJ? S23 is at Oakton. Its early, but seeing your outcome, among others, scares the heck out of me. Best of luck!

Anyone scheduled for admitted student day visit? We were planning on 3/26, but looks like now all the visits will be changed/cancelled. All regular classes at the campus will be online starting next week, and they advise students move out of dorm until after spring break. My son was looking forward to the visit to help with final decisions, he will be disappointed.

Log in to your student portal, and you should see a message regarding the change of admitted student day format.

Got the official email just now, so no overnight visit :frowning:

"Our Open Houses and Admitted Student Programs will shift to an online format that will run throughout the spring. We are working to create visit options that will reduce the size of groups for information sessions and tours. Updates to our offerings will be shared on our website.

While we are not able to host students in our residence halls, we are working to develop a number of online opportunities for you to connect with our students, attend webinars with faculty and staff, and continue to learn about Case Western Reserve University. An ongoing virtual open house will run throughout the spring, and you’ll be able to choose from multiple events."

Fret not…when my eldest was in the college process we were living in Germany at the time. We did a spring break tour of most of the colleges she applied to…but when it came time to make a decision, it was not in the budget to go to admitted students day. She selected a college and had no issues.

Has anybody heard back about any of the competitive scholarships (Milton A. and Roslyn Z. Wolf Scholarship, Andrew and Eleanor Squire Scholarship, Case Western Reserve University Leadership Scholarships, etc.)?
