CWRU 2024 EA/ED I Discussion (merged)

How does the deferral letter look like?

accepted

act: 32
gpa: 94 uw/98 w
fairly strong EC’s
2 summers of research
no campus visits or interview

Deferred:
Intended engineering major
SAT: 1480 - 790 Math - 690 Reading
3.7 Weighted GPA
Good ECs with 2 leadership roles
National Merit Commended Student
Pretty bummed. Knew it wasn’t a safety or anything but thought I had a good chance. Hopefully RD works out.

We had not one but two visits, with an interview at one of them. Great stats, including 34 ACT, 10 APs (mostly math and science), an All State arts designation, leadership and service. Still deferred. Fortunately, she got into another top college with a low acceptance rate and received a large merit scholarship there. Our counselor thinks because she WAS interviewed, they thought she wasn’t a fit. Daughter doesn’t interview well – she’s not “sociable” and tends to give short, matter of fact answers in interviews.

Accepted;

Major of Choice–Economics
35 ACT
GPA: 3.962 UW
NMSF, good ECs (All-State Choir, 2nd-degree black belt, play in a regional college’s orchestra [Northern Kentucky University], etc.)

Accepted!! w/ 30,000 scholarship

Major: mechanical engineering
Sat: 1560 (790 EBWR, 770 math)
Sat II: BioE: 730 Math II: 750
Ok Ecs,
no interview because I live too far. I’ve never visited but I think I am going in February, I’m super excited!

Can I just ask if everyone who gets accepted gets a large merit award (20,000 +) at this school? My S20 got a 30,000 scholarship as well.

Case is known for merit Scholo

Deferred - Mech E - In state -

Act 35 (36,35,35,35) not super scored
SAT II -Physics 790, MathII 770
GPA 3.9 uw
11 honors; 5 AP courses, Pre-engineering curriculum in competitive HS, 3 AP currently in progress
Strong ECs - Eagle Scout, 4yr XC, 4yr FRC robotics - Team lead, 200+ Service hrs, Tier I Show choir -singer/dancer/soloist, Theatre-lead & soloist, NHC, clubs, etc

Very disappointed, but have OS options available. Case is 1st choice but can’t chance ED due to potential cost without big merit $. Will have to go RD & wait. Probably request additional LOR from school administrator and schedule an interview. Nothing to lose at this point. It would have been nice if decision came out before my school was on winter break. It’ll be January before I can even talk to my counselor or ask for additional LOR.

Question: Should I still apply for other CWRU scholarships, since I won’t know the RD results before the application deadline? Not sure if I can be considered since I’m currently deferred. I don’t want to miss out on them, but don’t want to waste my time either.

I got accepted!!

Act: 29 (superscore 31)
GPA: 3.69 uw, 4.21 w
Rank: top 15%
7 honors classes and 7 APs

I am an all state swimmer and started the varsity team at my school and was captain of the team my junior and senior year. I also participated in a club team year round. I also have a job that I work at 10 hours a week and I do community service occasionally. I know my application clearly wasn’t as strong as others but I think my essay and interest in the school is what pushed me over the edge. CWRU is literally my absolute dream school, when I took a tour it felt like home to me. When I read the letter that I got accepted I cried for 20 minutes because I was so happy.

The only problem now is figuring out how I can afford it. They gave me absolutely next to nothing and it’s still $55,000 a year. So now it’s time to start applying for all of the scholarships that I can because Case is where I want to be next year.

Accepted
Political Science with 20k scholarship

Stats:
ACT: 33
750 U.S History SAT Subject Test
GPA: 3.91 UW, 4.26 W
Rank: Top 5%
2 honor classes/6 APs/5 Dual Enrollment Classes

Decent ECs: Debate Captain, few state debate awards, school’s basketball team, yearbook editor, and some volunteer stuff for church, local museums, etc.

No Interview, No campus visit, but attended info session

I believe they’re accepting more based on their need for people within each major, with an emphasis in the Humanities section.

@Arschmude I can tell your enthusiasm and happiness when reading your message, I hope everything works out fine financially for you. I have been reading from other threads that you can contact and let the school know about your financial situation and how they are the number one school for you and ask if they can help with the financial situation by increasing their scholarship amount; or ask them what else can be done. I’m sure you’ll find a way. Good luck!

hello all! i got accepted to case 2024 and thought i’d share my stats to help some of you out.

  • 34 superscore ACT, 33 composite
  • 4.32 weighted, 3.9 unweighted
  • 12 total AP classes throughout HS
  • 5 honors classes total
  • cross country athlete
  • NHS, student council, class officer
  • president of a nonprofit
  • music : guitar, piano, voice

I wanted to post this to share my stats because they weren’t nearly as high as some I’ve seen, and I was accepted EA into the Finance program. 30 ACT, 3.9 unweighted GPA, 7 APs, good EC’s with several leadership positions, lots of volunteerism, and very little demonstrated interest. Still shocked that I got in. Case was a stretch for me and not my first choice. Merit was low compared to other offers, so not sure that I’ll accept. Congrats to all who were accepted!

I guess that I just don’t understand how the game is played. CWRU appears to be all over the board with who gets Accepted, Deferred or Rejected. I know that it is a subjective process, but there doesn’t appear to be a rhyme or reason to it all. Even more so than other highly competitive schools.

Where in the portal does any financial aid appear?

@DadInTheCLE

I would imagine they want to have students that fill a variety of majors, that are from a variety of states, and who have a variety of ECs that they want to continue doing.

Was one kid the 500th Biomed Major with 1500 SATs when they only need 200?

@bopper - I almost feel like my son being a local kid hurts him, but maybe I’m projecting because it doesn’t make sense to me.

Hope it all works out for him in the RD process.

Congratulations! would you mind sharing if the $20K was a merit scholarship for grades or financial aid? would be helpful for those applying, thank you!
