Does anyone have any experience in taking Cybersecurity or A.I. Majors? I am going to college for these, and am a little nervous that I may not be very good or might not like it. I have looked up a lot of info, And it seems like a 50/50 that I like it. Anything helps. Thanks!
Why don’t you ask Anderson and /or RHIT for a student to speak with. One at each. It’s mainly parents on here, some many years from having a kid in school.
I have asked already. I just didn’t know if any one else had advice. I will meet with the student group on Friday at 10:00. Thank you for the advice though
Update: I am going for cybersecurity, as the college Cyber team just made nationals. I would like to join next semester, but can’t if I don’t decide on a major, so I just went with what I’m better at.
I thought you are entering in on a major - but many kids go to college undecided and some colleges don’t even let you pick a major until after two years.
You’ll be fine.
I know. I wasn’t worried, I just wanted to see what people thought was more worth it.
My understanding is that both cybersecurity and AI make use of a fair amount of applied mathematics. It turns out that if you are good at applied mathematics, there are a lot of other things that you can do with this skill.
Cybersecurity and AI also require some knowledge of computer science. Again this is a skill that can be used in a lot of other ways.
In university you can take some math classes, some CS classes, and at least one class in AI and at least one class in cybersecurity. Then you can start to think about which area is right for you. This might take a while to figure out but that is okay – you will be learning valuable skills along the way.
I was a math major in university, and focused on applied math.
Thank you! This is what I was needing to know.
