Cyclosporiasis - Yikes and Yuck!

We are seeing a GROWING increase in cases in our area.

Other parts of the country? Anyone unfortunate to contract it? I admit not always being perfect about washing produce but am religiously washing now.

I just came on here to ask if folks were hearing anything locally about this.

This is not the political forum, but I think it’s safe to say that it’s distressing to see that there is not a concise government response and communication about this, and I am sure it is due in some part to the reduction of folks at CDC and FDA.

For now, I am sticking to cooked veggies and things like apples that I can wash/peel.

Hoping my frozen blueberries were harvested well before this. And grateful that I grow my own basil.

We are “nearly” Michigan and it’s also spreading in Ohio.

And yet diflufenican has been approved for use in the U.S. for the first time ever at the same time SCOTUS removed any attempt to sue chemical companies for knowledge of cancer causing agents being allowed to be used in the U.S. I don’t get it. Feel free to delete if this is not appropriate - but look it up.

Ugh I eat yogurt with all of the berries almost every day, and can’t wait for more summer fruit. We have a raspberry bush but the birds and critters have been

Sounds awful. Luckily, I do wash produce although I have to admit that if it’s from my own garden, I just do a quick rinse. I think I’ll be more vigilant now.

Cases are increasing in KY and Indiana. The concern is that it can go on for weeks.

I think I may have had it in May. It lasted about 2 weeks. As soon as I thought I was getting better, I would have another episode. I had been eating a lot of fresh produce, mostly organic. This week I started cooking all my vegetables until they figure this thing out.

My husband has been dealing with gastrointestinal issues for a few weeks.

He thought it was a reaction to his wegovy so he quit that. Still going on a week and half after he stopped taking the pills.

He did eat some raspberries from Costco a couple of weeks ago. I don’t care for them so I didn’t.

It might be something else as there are no reported cases in our county. He might actually have to go to the doctor one of these days.

So far nothing reported in California.

Our FoodBank gets a great deal of bagged salad, bagged lettuce, from grocery stores. Throwing it all away now.

I believe they do/can treat it with antibiotics?

Yes, it can be treated with antibiotics, which by themselves have issues. Ugh. Stomach issues are the worst!

I am I the eye of the storm & eat a lot of fresh produce. I am washing it a lot more thoroughly than I typically do, and absolutely no raspberries. The parasite apparently clings to them big time. Unfortunately, we did have some recently, and it takes 2 days to two WEEKS for the symptoms to hit.

You are close enough to counties where it’s been reported that it could be he’s dealing with it.

A friend was just talking about this- they were describing that it would go on for days, and then they would start to feel better. They think that they were better and then it would start all over again and that happened for three rounds at least and over at least two weeks. Sounds miserable.

My husband has been eating raspberries probably 3-4 pints a week - gonna put a stop to that….

Are here particular fruits that have been identified? The person who I was talking to who had this is a nurse, and what she told me causes this (she said its a parasite) - is gross!

A list of foods is in this article.

I read about the bagged salad (Taylor Farms brand in particular) and raspberries being associated with this outbreak. I didn’t know that cilantro, basil, snow peas, and green onions were included.

The Hill website had this map of the outbreak.
