So I just got out of junior year, I wasn’t exactly satisfied with the grade I got in AP Lang and Comp.
I got a D for the year in the class since I was really tired everyday from track/xc practice and I worked basically all weekend throughout the year at this crappy place my parents wanted me to work at. I really tried to get my grades back up, but often the stress got to me and I couldn’t really focus. I have a 3.93 weighted GPA,and so far I have taken all honors core classes and have also taken AP Human Geography and U.S. History with 4’s on each of the exams(I wasn’t so lucky on the AP Lang exam,I got a 1
)
I am currently applying to many places as possible, with the Air Force Academy at the top of my list, followed by other notable schools such as Virginia Military Institute, Virginia Tech, and so on. Will this D crush my chances of getting into any of these schools?
Perhaps not crushed but a severe blow. You might still get a nomination to USAFA. That would depend on the competition for your Representative’s slot. And they might send you to the prep school. Make sure you have a safety you can definitely get into, can definitely afford, and would be happy to attend.
How’d you get a 1 on the AP Lang exam? Jesus…
I’m just kidding. You don’t have to report it. Half the kids in my school drew dick pics on the free response for AP Lang and don’t plan on reporting their scores. You’ll be fine in terms of that area. Just submit the other AP scores since they’re decent and make you look good.
In terms of the actual D, yes it will hurt a bit and I won’t sugarcoat it- I would know since I got a C+ for a semester in Chem Honors in my sophomore year and I know that definitely hurts me despite my upward trend. Your other course load makes up for it though, provided you have done well in other classes of course. I think the 3.93 weighted GPA is good enough for a lot of places so don’t sweat it. Perhaps write a note in the extra information section on the Common App explaining your circumstances?
