D in first semester senior year.

Grades are due soon and I’m most likely going to get a D grade in my Chinese 3 class. All my other grades are fine ranging from 1 C to A’s and B’s. Chinese 3 is not a required course and my grade dropped to a D because of a bad grading period. I had 1 A 1 B and 1 D but still ended up with a D. What course of action should I take? I’m hoping to get into UC’s and CSU’s only. How badly will this D in Chinese affect my chances of being rescinded?

没办法。 Getting D’s is not good, but you already knew that. However, your junior grades are used for admissions to most schools. If there is an issue with your mid-term grade report, you might be asked to address it.

The UCs require you to notify them of any grade below a C. And to confirm with any UC that accepts you that they received your notice. Details at http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/after-you-apply/

Should you decide not to do this on hopes that maybe they won’t notice, they do notice. And it will go worse for you since you didn’t follow the requirements.

As to how much impact it will have, nobody can really say that doesn’t work in UC admissions.
