D in Sophomore Year

I got a D in AP Computer Science during my second semester. On the UCSD website it says that you must earn a GPA of 3.4 or more with no grade lower than C. (and that the GPA is based on a-g classes). If I don’t need the AP Computer Science class credit to complete the a-g courses, then will they still consider my application even if I have a D?

Your application will be considered with D in CS. With respect to a decent chance to get into UCSD, it will depend upon how you do rest of the year in CS, and overall.

You do not get to pick which a-g courses are used in the UC GPA calculation (all a-g courses are used). Since you are quoting a 3.4 UC GPA minimum, you will be an out of state applicant? Be aware the UC’s offer little to no financial aid for OOS students so expect to pay full fees at $60K/year.

Here is the Freshman profile for 2017. If you are worried about meeting the minimum 3.4 GPA then you are not going to be a competitive applicant. Yes they will consider your application but that D will impact your chances greatly.
