Any suggestions for stores that would sell petite size formal gowns that are sophisticated and pretty, not that ghastly strapless/satin stuff or old-womanish? It seems like any remotely decent proms and graduation ballgowns are made inherently for girls 5’5" an up:)

Sorry, I’m the only 5’3" girl in my household…I can tell you lots of things about buying things for tall girls! One idea…if you can get a good buy and have it altered, it may come out to be similar in price than a specialty petite store. Also…look online or in catalogs…

I like the dresses for bridesmaids. Simple and elegant (and also flexible for other dress-up events). David’s Bridal was one of my favorites.

Nordstrom’s works best for us for selection.

If a Nordstrom would come to Western New York I would be able to die in peace (albeit BROKE), but it has not materialized yet. The dateless one also has the problem of being petite (5’ 2" - I think we are putting the tailor’s kid though college) and since she is athletic most styles are not flattering to her body type. However, we have found luck with the Shoshanna line (the girl that used to date Jerry Seinfeld) - shorter dresses, but very lovely…I think she has some long ones in her line too.

Rachacha - my D is only 5’1", and she ended up gettin a long gown - it needed to be shortened and straps needed to be taken in, but it looks beautiful on her. The alterations were a big expense though - $130! We haven’t paid it yet, as the dress isn’t ready - but I thought that was a lot. I wish I had known about that line of dresses before we went shopping!

I wish all your petite daughters would come to my son’s school!
