D1 Baseball Recruiting Window

My 2025 S has a few offers from D3 schools, but his goal is to play D1. How long should he wait for a D1 offer without risking the loss of the D3 offers? A few D1 schools have shown interest, but the traction from them hasn’t been like from the D3 schools.

My nephew received multiple on-the-spot D1 offers at a showcase event.

(Was a stand-out hitter as a freshman. Invited to play in the Cape Cod Summer Baseball League where the professional batting coach destroyed his style. Never recovered and was not drafted.)

what do you mean by “shown interest”?

He needs to ask the D3 coaches how long they will wait for an answer on an offer. Some may be open ended and some may be exploding offers.

One D1 coach said he was on the top of their list in his position and another exchanged emails with him at a showcase in July. It has been crickets since, and I imagine they would want to wrap up their 2025 class soon. D3s at the showcase on the other hand have been aggressive – requested transcripts and made offers over a timeframe of a month and a half

I’m sort of inclined not to ask how long he would have to accept the offers, and let the schools bring it up. Do you think they are likely to wait until December? I’ve seen players commit to the D1 schools that have shown interest in my son as late as December in the year prior to graduation.

Coaches that mesh with a kids playing style is so important. How close to high school graduation did he commit?

I do not recall other than to share that he accepted one of the offers immediately because it was a dream school for him (think Stanford/Duke/ Vanderbilt/Rice).

Scholarship amount was low, but the family was able to easily afford the private National University regardless of whether or not a scholarship was given.

I disagree with this. When given an offer, your son needs to understand the timeline of that offer. He needs to ask.
