I am a soccer play who is sure she wants to play soccer in college. I decided to go pre-med so that really limits the time for soccer. I have been offer almost a full ride to a D1 school, but turned it down because of the time involved. I really like some of the private colleges that are D3, but they are so expensive. I can’t afford to go there without a certain amount of aid. Currently I have and offer to go to a D2 school that I like. I like the D3 schools more, but I will not know how much finiancial aid I will recieve until around January. By that time it will be to late to accept the D2 offer. Should I explain my situation to the D3 schools and ask them how much aid I will get? That way I can decide if I should take the D2 offer. Anyone have any other solutions?

You should do two things. First ask the coach offering the D2 scholarship if he or she is willing to keep it open until January. Because you are good enough to receive a good D1 offer, you might be surprised at the D2 school’s willingness to wait for your answer. Second you should definitely explain your predicament to the D3 coach and see if you can get a quicker read out regarding the D3 financial aid.

thank you!

some D3 schools use ED and likely letters (with an early FA read) as their equivalent to the scholarship LOI process so students, like you, can make the timing of their decision work … so … I’d also suggest talking to the D3 coaches and ask if you will get one of their recruiting slots and can you get a likely letter and an early FA read.

CollegeBound,
If you want pre-med, check with the pre-med adviser at the DII school you are considering. How successful are they at placing their graduates in med school, and which med schools? If going to medical school is your top priority, apply that as a yardstick first. Good luck!
