Hello there. First I just want to talk about myself, I am a junior in high school, and play center. I have good size (6,4/285)and a pretty good junior year film. although I did not make all conference or all state, I was solid, and started every game of our season at center. I’ve been talking with schools near me in the NCAC Conference, and coaches have showed some interest. I’ve visited 2 schools and have talked to about 5. I plan to attend camps this summer. My question has to do with admissions, my cumulative GPA is a 3.2, and And I’m taking the ACT next week and will probably score somewhere around a 26/27. The two schools in REALLY intrested in are Denison and Case, which both have rigorous academics. Dension has an average GPA of around a 3.7 and case a 3.8. I know that Dension is test optional which appeals to me a lot. I want to know if schools like these football programs can sway admissions for football commits. I’ve been really getting stronger since last year and faster, so I think I could defenetily be an all conference selection next year. But I would like to know if I can get by with my GPA and act. Any advice, or answers to my question would help me very much. Thanks!
My sense is that it will come down to how much they like you athletically for colleges at the academic level you’re stating given the ACT you project. Let’s take the ACT first and see how it goes, and you’ll have more than one chance at it.
That said, my guess is Denison might be able to help you given your academics, but I’m not so optimistic about Case. I’m basing this on my recent experience doing the recruitment process with these 2 colleges for football, in addition to many others. My prediction is you’d have to be willing to apply to Denison Early Decision. Again, you’d have to be one of their top recruits athletically because there will be a lot of guys who will need a lot of support from them with admissions but only a few they can support. The visits and camp attendance can help to show that you’re serious that Denison is your top choice and worth them putting their support in you.
Given that your academics will be a reach, I imagine the coaches won’t be prepared to discuss your situation too deeply until at least summer, if not fall.
Denison is a top D3 in football and an excellent academic institution. The coaches also know how to evaluate talent , how to build a board early and how to recruit with a strong early emphasis on ED1. My S, who ended up at a Patriot, filled out the online form as a sophomore, but never visited the school, attended a camp or sent an email. Nonetheless, Dennison early and actively went after him and a number of D1 types from South Florida. Seem to be a class organization at an excellent LAC.
