DAAD RISE 2016

Hey, everyone! I noticed that no one had created a thread for the DAAD RISE 2016 application cycle, so I thought I would. I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything yet from their PhD students or the program? Maybe we could also post stats and where we had applied to? I have a 4.0/4.3 GPA and applied to the sex hormone project in Erlangen, the malaria project in Heidelberg, and the radiation effect on adipocytes in Rostock! Good luck to everyone who applied!

I applied as well. I contacted a PhD student before applying. Applied to materials science projects in Hanover, Soligen and Ilmenau. 4.0 GPA. Where do you go to school?

I go to school in Canada at the University of Prince Edward Island, and yourself?

USA, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee! I am really excited to see the results

Hey guys! I am an undergrad from McMaster university and I applied to some in materials engineering and one in applied physics. I know I’m the website it says students should be getting a response at the beginning of March. Do you guys knowing that is typically the case or due they roll out notices usually before or after that approximate date?

From what I heard from previous years, the decisions are usually sent out by last week of february to first week of march. Which materials projects did you apply to? I applied to Lithium Ion Batteries, Solar Cells and fuel cells

End of February eh? That’s not too bad.

I applied to a might emitting transistors, perovskite solar cells and OLED one.

The PI for one of the projects I applied to said he was willing to rank me as #1 if I committed, and also offered an additional 1500 euros to help offset housing. Does anyone know how likely it is to be rejected by DAAD after an offer like this? I still don’t fully understand how the process works.

@trapqueen679 According to the phD students, DAAD makes the final decision. They could either pick the first, second or third student that the phD student ranked. It’s a really confusing process. Hopefully you’ll go through since it sounds like a really great deal

It’s getting close to March and I am really anxious about the result!

Hi, I’m an undergrad from England - I’ve applied for Chemistry related topics - good luck to everyone!

Hey I applied to the Malaria project in Heidelberg too, did you hear anything back??

Hi everyone! I applied to the Paderborn project about Interdisciplinary Research Internship in Neuromuscular Exercise Physiology and two in Berlin, one about Inertial Measurement of Human Motion for Real-Time Applications and the other about Gait Support and Rehabilitation. Anyone else apply to these?

I applied to Heidelberg’s malaria project as well. I believe the result comes out around feburary 27 or later.

wow Feb.27th?!

I believe it is March 1st. I just heard back from my no.1 research choice. They said that I was ranked #1. Lets see how it goes. I will be seriously disappointed if it does not go well as my GPA is good as well.

There is a reddit forum for the applicants. Some received acceptances this morning. Good luck to the rest of us!!!

Isn’t it March 15th the last day? I don’t find a specific date from the DAAD website. Also mumford07 did you also have interviews or is it that the Phd student contacts you?

I applied for a project with birds, a project with fish, and a project with copepods and phytoplankton. Where are all my fellow zoologists/ecologists at?

Hi Rainbowumbrella! I contacted the PhD student before I applied and our research interests matched. My current experience was quite relevant to his research.
