Dad paying student loans

My father is paying for my sister student loans do to unusual and unfortunate reasons . I was wondering if this could help me get any more need based aid ?

If he was the co-signer of those loans, then I don’t see how that can help you.

Sorry, but no … expenses are not considered in the EFC formula.

Well, hang on a sec . . if the “unusual and unfortunate” circumstances really are that, then they might be something that a school would consider.

Paying debts for oneself isn’t even a consideration … paying debts for another would be a stretch to consider.

FAFSA is concerned with what you have and what you make. How you choose to spend what you have and what you make doesn’t figure in.

If I remember correctly, the dad cosigned the sister’s loans, and now he’s having to pay them.

While the situation is bad, I don’t think it will make a difference for aid.
